Crash Course: Del Shannon

Del Shannon was a singer in the early sixties. Del had a few big hits such as "Runaway" and "Hats Off to Larry."  These are great songs if you enjoy early Rock and Roll.  Del had a distinct style of singing and it suited him well. In my opinion Del never recieved the creidit he deserved and people are missing out on a great early rock singer.Recommended songs: I Go to Pieces (which he wrote), Handy Man, Hey! Little Girl, Cry Myself to Sleep, I Wake Up Crying, Sea of Love


Del Shannon died on February 8, 1990 by a self inflicted gunshot wound.

Crash Course: Benjamin Orr

Benjamin Orr was the bass player/singer for The Cars. He had a great voice and did a fine job holding down the rhythm section with Dave Robinson.   I think Ben was under appreciated for his contribution within The Cars. The Cars recently released a new album which is fantastic, and within the liner notes it says, "Ben, your spirit was with us on this one." The album is a wonderful tribute, but I only imagine what it would of been with Benjamin Orr playing and singing. Recommended songs: Drive, Just What I Needed, Let's Go, Cruiser


Benjamin Orr died on October 3, 2000 from pancreatic cancer.

Since I couldn't find a picture of the band I've included the video. This is a typical 90's song, but the darker tone adds a little danger. What kills this song for me is the terrible rapping injected into the middle of the song. It is like having the best boner in the world and jumping into an icy cold pool.

Vinyl Madness!

Jim Croce was a singer - songwriter in the early 70's and an artist I always enjoyed. Jim wrote music for the best and worst days in life. The conviction in his voice is intoxicating and his haunting guitar melodies are a perfect marriage. Thanks Jim for the wonderful music. R.I.P.

Crash Course: Bobby Fuller

Bobby Fuller was an rock singer and guitar player in the mid-sixties. He is probably the most famous for his hit " I Fought the Law" and "Love's Made a Fool of You" Bobby Fuller was heavily influenced by Buddy Holly.   Bobby Fuller was a great singer, but if he had more time to hone his style he may of been a legend. Recommended songs: A New Shade of Blue, Another Sad and Lonley Night, My Own True Love, Love's Made a Fool of You


Bobby Fuller died July 18, 1966 at the age of 23 from “accidental asphyxiation."

(Since I'm doing the countdown for Black Sabbath albums this fits quite well.) Whoa Ozzy...That spaceship must be flying high. I feel guilty because I couldn't stop laughing, but Ozzy is a natural comic when hammered. Ozzy manages to say "Let's get on with this umm.." "Yeah" "We just jam out man, jam out." "4 Stooges" " Zakk's into men" "  The interview was a true masterpiece.

Woman: What was the worst show in your life?


Ozzy: When they bombed Hiroshima.

Music! Mayhem! Madness!

Diamond Head - Am I Evil? Yeah, yeah I know Metallica covered this song, but Metallica's version is nothing like the original. After the marching intro, and VH inspired wank the song attacks you. The main riff to this song is nasty. This band is great and had more then one good song, in case... You know, you may want to listen to the album??

Red Fang - Sharks. My friend sent a copy of this to me and I thought it kicked ass. I believe he said it was a local band (Portland, Ore). Pop, fizz.
