Crash Course: Layne Staley

Layne Staley was a singer/song writer for the band Alice in Chains. The band released their first album "Facelift" which became a successful album with the help of the single "Man in the Box." Alice in Chains maintained their popularity during the early ninties, and Layne did other side projects, Mad Season being one of them. Layne Staley had battled drug addiction for many years and the band went on a permanent hiatus. Layne had a remarkable voice, and it will be missed. Recommened songs - Nutshell, Rain When I Die, We Die Young, Junkhead, Love, Hate, Love, Down In A Hole, Confusion, Shame In You, Got Me Wrong,  I Stay Away, and finally the Mad Season album which is a must own for any rock fan.

Alice in Chains - Nutshell. I never understood how AIC were labeled a GruDgE band. They had a sound that reminded me more of Black Sabbath then say, Pearl Jam? The band also wrote a few slow numbers such as this soul melting, tear flowing song. Rest in Peace, Mr. Stanley.

Aria - Angel Dust. Aria is a Russian metal band who play some fine tunes. The album cover is classic, the sound is tight, and the guy sings like a Dio/Dickinson combo.  The language barrier is a bit of a drag, but good music always prevails. I will be checking out more of their albums.

The Fly's - Got You (Where I Want You)

                                         
Since I couldn't find a picture of the band I've included the video. This is a typical 90's song, but the darker tone adds a little danger. What kills this song for me is the terrible rapping injected into the middle of the song. It is like having the best boner in the world and jumping into an icy cold pool.

Vinyl Madness!

Being a teenager is tough, (for most of us) but there are moments which are remarkable. One of these great moments is when I first heard Nirvana - Unplugged in New York. It was a birthday gift from my sister, and probably the best gift she ever gave me. I remember the moment I put in the cd in and I played it from start to finish. It gave me comfort in those tough times. I recently purchased the album on vinyl and it made me feel like a kid again.

Misfits - Sream! The Misfits with singer Michale Graves brought some magic back into the group. Danzig had left, but Graves was a great replacement. If you love B horror movies this video is right up your alley.

Opening with demented laughter(Thanks to Am I Going Insane), wah-wah bass and then busting in to a nice *Amazing* groove. Ozzy is giving his all on this track and he kicks ass . I find the mellow/breakdown at the end of the song to be refreshing and catch Ozzy being reflective in his lyrics. Perfection.

Marc Bolan's The Perfumed Garden of Gulliver Smith. 
Marc Bolan had a tendency to write interesting lyrics and music. This is a great example of his quirkiness.
In no way, shape, or form is this song radio friendly. The video is extremely boring, but thanks to the person for uploading the song.

The Lemonheads covering a Misfits song is a great combination. Evan Dando does justice to the song, and maybe on certain levels, he surpassed the original. As with any Misfits songs the lyrics are demented so if you sleep with a night- light on, I would skip this track.
